Trying to do NaNoWriMo again this year. It’s just continuing the story I started last year. I changed jobs part way through November last year so I didn’t get much done. This year the work stress is related to everyone I was working with when I started has now quit, so a year in and I’m the most experienced.

It’s a weird feeling. But I’m having some luck with the writing.

I did end up going to work in Sunday's horrible weather. But only because my boss came and picked me up. My car is still 3/4 burried in a snow drift. I dug out the hatch yesterday to get out the cat little I'd bought and never brought into the house.

Today I will go and get the car cleaned off the rest of the way. For no other reason than I will need it to get to work tomorrow. I should have do it yesterday but it was very cold yesterday. Like if you're outside more than 20 minutes your face will freeze off cold. So I stayed my ass inside.

I have things I could be doing today. Working on HDC hell which is about 50 to 70 rows from done length wise. Or working on the piece of fan art the sister in law requested of Eddie Brock at the beginning of Venom drinking coffee in bed wearing Hello Kitty pj's. I did manage a sketch of it on lunch Sunday. But I'm think I want to go digital for the finished piece, so that means digging out the other computer.

I'll do something eventually. Even if it's just fold the laundry I washed yesterday. Can't spend the whole day curled on the couch in the sun like a cat... or can i?

But not until February. Going to fly down to Florida to visit my Dad and Step-Mother at their winter place.

Pretty sure I can do the 10 day trip with out having to check a bag. I'm from the frozen north, it'll be warm for me where they are. And warm weather cloths weigh less and take up less room. So I'm golden.

Now I just have to make sure I get the time off and find a ride to and from the airport, because I don't really want to have to pay for parking at the airport.

I made it through a very long boring day at work. Now I am on my couch in my Batgirl onsie. I had cold pizza for supper. Soon I’ll crochet. All is well in my world.

unless that's not your thing, in which case I hope you have a lovely Tuesday.

Presents and Family Gatherings )

I've got work, and then on my lunch break my family Christmas gathering. Because even though it's been on the 24th, weather permitting, as long as I can remember this year when I have the 24th off, my grandmother decides to do it on the 23rd. When I'm supposed to work 9 hours. Luckily my manager likes me. And is work today so I can take a long lunch. Also luckily my grandmother only lives about 15 minutes from where I work.

The real question is will my mother be on her best behavior. I saw her yesterday and she told me I need to change how I shave the sides of my head because I've done it wrong for the shape of my head. I mean it's an improvement from when she used to call me fat, but also not what I want to deal with around the holidays.

In happier news, I threw a couple of mods at Stardew Valley and my enjoyment has greatly improved. Still trying to get enough copper ore to build a furnace so I can make copper bars so I can make a silo. But that kind of thing is the point of the game.

Today 2 people called out. The other service writer is now mostly forgiven though. She's got some medical issues going on that I can understand her not being in.

The other person just called out because school was canceled and she has a son, which I think is with his dad right now. But where I work if they cancel school absences are approved. My ass still goes to work.

My ankle is doing better. Part of it is actually pretty well healed, the top where it was more of a graze than anything else.

It's gross and rainy out. So I'm going to watch X-Files and chill out until bedtime.

No more random injuries at work today so that was a bonus. My ankle didn't hurt as much as I thought it might today so that was nice.

Less nice was the other service writer calling out. Do to staffing shortages there are only 2 techs that work on Thursdays, 2 manages, and the 2 service writers. So that made an already short staffed day worse. Fortunatly things have started slowing down at work.

We're out of snow tires and have been for a month plus, we can order them, but anyone who walks in of the street is out of luck.

Which is fine, I've stopped coming home from work and wanting to go straight to bed. Nice to actually have energy to do something after work.

and I could tell.

Went into work and hour and a half earlier than normal on a Wednesday, got there and found out we had coverage and I probably could have come in later. Then an hour into work a coworker left a LT275/70R18 tire, mounted on a rim, standing in the garage unattended. Now for those not in the know that is a heavy ass tire. Probably at a hundred pounds.

Now picture me, the innocent service writer who just wants to give a customer an update on their job. So I'm out near this free standing tire. Which then decides it's done standing up right unattended and proceeds to tip over and land on my ankle. Thanks to a decade plus of customer service experience I did not swear. I did grab my leg and hop a little. Then go back inside and pull down my sock to check on the damage. I'm missing some skin, I've got some bruising, I spent most of the day trying not to limp.

I resisted Tumblr's call until after 1 today.

In the morning I vacuumed. Which was possibly months over due. Cleaned the filter on the air purifier. And the I washed the bathmats.

Most importantly I cooked... Well I put things a crockpot. Either way I have soup and lots of leftovers now.

Also spent some time setting up my media/art laptop. Its news. It's got a touch screen I'm afraid to touch because its so shinny and clean. It even came with a stylus/pen. I'm hoping with practise to improve my digital art. I have a drawing tablet but I have a problem with the disconnect between moving my hand in one place and having lines show up somewhere else.

The only downside to the morning cleaning spree is it made my allergies go nuts. I'm feeling better but there is still fluid in my ear.

I got laundry done, which is normal for a Monday. Got some crochet done while hanging out with the sister in law.

We also had tea in late observation of tea day.

And watched movies. She'd never seen Venom so we watched that and now I have fan art to work on for her. Then we watched Destination Wedding, which was delightful. Then because we have varied tastes we started watching Scorpion King Book of Souls.

I'll be honest I'm finishing that trash fire of a movie even though she's gone home now.

Today is my Friday. But it's also work 9 hours and oh there's no manager day. My lunch break is not long enough for this nonsense today.

Woke up with massive congestion today. Oh joy.

If I make it through work today I'm going to go see Into the Spidervers when I get out. So that's somthing I guess.

Last night was one of those no-sleep kind of nights. I got a couple hours, then woke up and stayed awake for like 3 hours. And I'm closing today.

I'm not going to say I never close, but I usually only close on Sundays. And the shop closes earlier on Sundays. And I open tomorrow. Which means, if I get out on time tonight, it's 12 hours from when I clock out and have to clock back in. Which really doesn't work well for me.

It's below freezing, snowing out and my period just started. Today gets two thumbs down and I haven't even made it to work yet.

5 pairs of fingerless mittens

So I finished my custom order fingerless mittens for a customer on Etsy. Now here's hoping they actually buy them.

That's basically all I've done for the last 2 days.

Today I did watch Venom again. Although not as closely as I'd meant too. The stupid pellet stove just wont run right this winter. It ran fine all day. Right before I started the movie I turned it off so I could clean out the burn pot. Did that restarted it, and every 30 min. since then it's all but gone out. The boyfriend and I are at our wits end with the stupid thing. All we can figure is something with the upper auger is going wrong. Last night he adjusted the auger speed and it seemed to work. Then after more than 12 hours of running just fine it went nah I don't think I will.

At this point it's either start replacing pieces. Pay a repair man to come look at it, or go fuck it and buy another one. We got this one used 4 or 5 years ago so it's not like it's brand new.

Today is my Friday, and I'm ready for it. My plans for the next 2 days involve laundry, knitting 3 more fingerless mittens and maybe some cleaning. Like run the vacuum over the rug or something.

Oh and watching Venom since that's out on Tuesday, well the digital copy is. And you better believe I pre-ordered it.

So today my boss finally started training me in the garage. I'm an automotive service writer, so I don't really need to know how to change a tire, but I've been trying to get cross trained because we're short handed and I'd like to help out.

It would have been all fine and good except that my boss started me on a truck tire. I'm only 5'5. So that truck tire was a little big for me to handle easily. And it turns out trying to use a tire spoon to pry a tire over the lip of a wheel is a thing my bad shoulder really isn't found of. I still want to learn, but maybe on like a 14 or 15 inch car tire. Something with a smaller outside diameter so I don't kill myself doing it. I'm sure once I get some practice in I'll be able to handle the truck tires, but starting out. Not so much.

Or even better, just get me certified on oil changes. I've changed oil before. There is a ladder in the pit so my height isn't an issue. And it'd probably be easier on my shoulder too.

I suspect the training was half because my boss realized he promised to cross train me when I came back to the garage two years ago and half so the other service writer wouldn't keep coming out in the garage. She keeps saying she's in training after 6 months with us, so collectively we're trying to take of the metaphorical training wheels and see if she can actually stand on her own or if she should be encouraged to find another position in the company.
