I have just figured it out. The best comparison both for sounds they make and how they act for the degus is that little squirrel thing in Ice Age, they're a lot like him.

I bet Hephaestion wishes Alexander didn't think her big pregnant stomach was a good pillow. It's kind of cute though he likes to lay with his ear right on her stomach.
