So today my boss finally started training me in the garage. I'm an automotive service writer, so I don't really need to know how to change a tire, but I've been trying to get cross trained because we're short handed and I'd like to help out.

It would have been all fine and good except that my boss started me on a truck tire. I'm only 5'5. So that truck tire was a little big for me to handle easily. And it turns out trying to use a tire spoon to pry a tire over the lip of a wheel is a thing my bad shoulder really isn't found of. I still want to learn, but maybe on like a 14 or 15 inch car tire. Something with a smaller outside diameter so I don't kill myself doing it. I'm sure once I get some practice in I'll be able to handle the truck tires, but starting out. Not so much.

Or even better, just get me certified on oil changes. I've changed oil before. There is a ladder in the pit so my height isn't an issue. And it'd probably be easier on my shoulder too.

I suspect the training was half because my boss realized he promised to cross train me when I came back to the garage two years ago and half so the other service writer wouldn't keep coming out in the garage. She keeps saying she's in training after 6 months with us, so collectively we're trying to take of the metaphorical training wheels and see if she can actually stand on her own or if she should be encouraged to find another position in the company.
